About Me

John Porfyris: Corfu, Nissaki/ Kassiopi, Greece; I started writing Poetry out of an inspiration along with the need to express myself. My desire is to convey meaning in a time when a large majority of our fellow human beings are struggling for meaning and purpose in their lives. For me Poetry can be a vehicle to pass on intriguing messages with an educational element such as encouragement, positive thinking, spiritual and ethical values and a higher awareness of life's priorities like friendship, cooperation, peace understanding by transcending cultural, linguist and religious barriers and a vision for a better world for all. My belief is that poetry really matters, because it teaches us how to lead a life, appreciate and understand the world around us. A poet's culture is reflected in his writing and shows his identity and concern about the world, a world that is so big and so small at the same time. This is why poetry fascinates me and helps me broaden my horizons.
